Prairie Schooner (P18)

This is, essentially, a Word Of Mouth clue as this is the only place to get the clues to the Prairie Schooner Mystery Letterbox (unless you happen to have more than 1000 finds logged at Atlasquest.com ;) The box is listed on AQ for purposes of logging when found.

Location: New Helvetia (aka Somewhere in CA)

In the middle of the 19th Century hundreds of families started to head West in order to settle the newly acquired land there. Most traveled in a covered wagon that came to be known as a prairie schooner. The journey was incredibly difficult and many perished along the way. Of those that survived the Sierra Nevada mountains, hundreds headed towards New Helvetia having heard that the man who owned the place would give aid and comfort.

All that's left of New Helvetia is a fort bearing that man's name. Should you find yourself visiting this fort you will find a full size replica of a prairie schooner on its grounds. If you carefully examine the window at the bottom of the stairs that is located closest to the wagon, you may even take home your very own prairie schooner.
